Connecting to a linus files server with linux

I have just installed FC2 on my laptop for a full home and works conversion to linux , YOUPPI... (previously) I have installed FC1 in my basement PC to act as a fileserver (with Samba) and I could ''browse'' for files with windows explorer. How do I do this with FC2? Within OOo I would like to click on "open" and browse to something like /fileserver . I run KDE and with konqueror I can browse the LAN but only My own loopback IP appears. Perhaps there is a service I need to install, I hope it's not Samba since if I understand correctly it's perpous is to talk to windo$e machines. thanks.
