connecting remotely to unix
I'm running Mandrake 8.1 at home and I'm trying to connect to the Unix machines at school. Connecting using ssh works fine but how do I do to connect remotely using x?

SSH
use the ' -X ' argument
(ssh -X univertisity.edu )
so you don't need to mess aroud with
'xhost' and 'set DISPLAY'... it is also full VPN... mich means everything go encrypted... much secure

well, the -X option is generally set as default anyway, certainly is on every ssh i've installed.
Is that what you want to do? to use applications remotely only? If you want to go further and log into a remote machine and use an entirely remote to start x server on, meaning you will even get a X login and such... the kinda thing that eXceed does for windows... Not sure if that's at all what you'd want.. but you'll need to look at Xdmcp or something... proabably an anagram

I tried ssh -X host... but I don't seem to be able to bring up any window. Logging in works fine, though. Do I need to make any settings? Or please give some further info on the other method, but try to keep it simple, I'm quite new to this. thanks.

well... run an X application once you're logged in and it'll appear on your screen... What are you expecting to happen?
