Connecting linux to xp home


Anyone can help me join my computers together
1st computer SUSE 10
2nd computer XP Home
I would like the XP Home to connect to the internet through Suse
also share files from a folder on each computer.
Also to send instant Messages to each other
Im a newbie so bare with me

what you need is a router. you will want to connect the router to your incoming line (whatever it is) and then to each of the 2 computers. That is, unless you want the linux box to act as a firewall/router, in which case you will need more than 1 NIC and a firewall package.

You will want to set up a "shared documents" folder in XP, and you'll want to set up Samba sharing for a folder of your choice in Linux. Once you have done this, you can share files and/or printers.

I'm guessing you mean to install an IM client on Suse. It should already have GAIM on it. If it doesn't just use whatever package manager you'd like to install it.

I'm waiting for a LINK TL-R460 CABLE / DSL 4 PORT 1 WAN ROUTER which should be here within a week( I hope this is ok, it was recommended by a friend).

The Instant messaging I meant was to IM each computer not just on internet.
