Connecting a Wyse Winterm to a Linux PC
Hi guys
I'm looking for a bit of help, I'm trying to connect a Wyse Winterm to my Linux PC (Elemenrary Luna), I've installed xrdp and when I check in terminal it says it's running, I've setup an RDP Connection on the Wyse
Name: Elementary
Server <IP address of host PC>
Username <name I use to log into host PC>
Domain: Workgroup
However when I try to connect via the Wyse an error message appears sayin "The connection was ended because of a network error. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.
I may be missing something obvious as this not something I've done anything like this before.
Also if I'm connecting the Wyse directly to the host PC do I need a crossover cable ?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
Graeme

Depends on the age of your hardware. Ethernet adapters these days are auto detect and therefore a cross over cable is not required. If the ethernet adapter link LEDs on the computer and thin client are not illuminated then a cross over cable is required. You should be able to ping the thin client from your computer. Also make sure if a firewall is running on the computer that you are not blocking port 3389 (default).

Hi michael
thanks for your reply
I did finally manage to make a connection by installing Vino and setting auto ethernet ipv4 setting to "shared to other computers" the problem is scaling the display as the host has a 22" widescreen monitor and the client has a 15" monitor and it doesn't scale down and it's a bit laggy.
I'm not really too troubled, this is only an experiment as this is a thin client I saw lying around at a boot sale a while ago and I didn't even know what a thinclient was until now so at least I've learned something
I was hoping that it was possible to run programs on the thin client independently of the host but that doesn't look possible it just seems to mirror the host, but the client has a web browser built in but I can't make a connection, is it possible for the client for the to connect to the internet through the host PC ?
Once again many thanks
Graeme

Yes. I assume you have two ethernet adapters installed in your PC. I'm not familiar with Elementary OS but if network manager is installed you can configure the adapter connected to the thin client under IP_4 settings to "share to other computers".
