connect to Internet via COMMANDS

Hi

1) Please tell me HOW to connect to the Internet via the COMMAND-LINE ONLY?

2) Can someone please tell me EXACTLY what all information I need to gather about my internet connection to connect to the Internet using the COMMAND-LINE ONLY?

3) My ISP says it "will only give dynamic IP addresses. No static IP addresses will be given initially." Whats dynamic & static IP addresses? Can I still be able to connect to the Net with only this information of my dynamic IP addresses?

Thanks a lot.

Take care

1. You may have either Links and/or Lynx installed, they are command line browser. Type in
Code:
links www.google.com

or

lynx www.google.com
to connect.

2. How do you normally connect? I have a small 4 port hub which issues ip addresses dynamically, so once I have set up my network connection I don't need to do anything else.

3. A Dynamic ip address is one which is issued once your pc has connected to the local network from a pool of ip addresses. A static address is one which is issued to your pc only. To show your ip settings, in a console (you may need to be root for this) type
Code:
ifconfig

I have used Links before. Remember the esc key and use the arrow keys, a lot.
