Hi all folks,

I just upgrade my workstation box RH7.3 to RH9.0 with the latter's CD. I encountered problem in setup broadband connection. I have 2 (two) Ethernet cards, eth0 for connecting to server and eth1 for broadband-ADSL. Both of them can be detected by the System. Network configuration went throught without problem but ppp0 (adsl) could not be activated with following warning;

Determining IP information for eth12 failed . Cannot activate network device ppp0 /sbin/adsl-start:line 215:xxx terminate. $CONNECT"S@"> /dev/null 2>&1

I tried many times including rechecking its configuration and ISP
information entered and could not discover the cause.

Kindly help. Thanks in advance.

A simple suggestion.. put the dsl line on eth0. Put the server line on eth1.

Thanks for your response.

I tried your suggestion before posting. The same result. ppp0 could not be activated with the same warning.

I also tried unplug and replug the ethernet cards. No solution was found.

I take it your running and ethernet based based adsl modem , stop using the adsl-start? script, and just fall back to networking, the adsl modem/router or what not should be able to issue you with an ip address via dhcp, so just run a dhcp client and a connection should magically appear ,

This is all i do, but then my adsl modem deals with all the pppoe stuff

with regard to eth0 and eth1, it will not make any difference as to which is on what

Thanks for your advice.

My computer is connected to ASDL via a modem with dynamic IP address.

My problem is now solved by changing eth1 to another slot of motherboard.
Check "Automatically obtain IP address settings with: 'dialup'"

One thing I could not resolve. I did not notice change on hitting /sbin/adsl-start and /sbin/adsl-stop. How to find out adsl status?
