connect ethernet to DSL modem


I was trying to connect my 3COM ethernet card to a motorola DSL modem without success.

Can somebody give any hints?

Try to use the following command:

route add default gw (or whatever is your router/modem IP).

or just try to configure it all with:

I can't really get the modem IP.

I've been using a linksys router to manage my network, but now I would like to set my Linux machine as a router and dhcp server because the linksys router isn't working satisfactory.

Anyway I've got some ip addresses I might try out and see if I can do something. I got them with the route command but they ain't look like a type C IP address as a gateway.
