LinuxQuestions.org - Confusing Debian PPP install on nForce2/PPPoE

Apologies for the nondescript "confusing" but that's about what it is and not much more. I'm running on a MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR mainboard (nForce2 chipset w/onboard ethernet and sound). I've tried installing debian from the 7-disc Woody set (3.0r2) and a netinst Woody package that a friend linked me to (don't know the version). I run into trouble when I try to do my internet configuration - it gives me a dialup configuration screen and no other options. I'm running through a router, and I've never had to set PPPoE in Windows when I set up my internet connection, so I'm not entirely sure that I actually have to set PPPoE at all, but I'm not exactly the most educated in networking either.
After I went through that and ended up without any connection at all (because I don't have a dialup modem, only an onboard ethernet card), I discovered that I had no eth0 device, nor could I probe/detect/discover one. When I tried Redhat, I ran into a lot of trouble trying to get nForce2 drivers to run, and so I'm guessing that the debian installer just can't find anything because it's all nForce2.
I haven't tried this yet, mainly because I can't find the files to do so, but I was wondering if it would be possible to use the redhat packages and install them through alien (I think that's what the process is called - the one that can translate redhat packages)? If that's not possible, where could I find a Debian nForce2 package, and how would I install it?
