Confused about VNC Server....

Hello all :-)

I am a band-spanking newbie fresh off of M$, and I am attmepting to troubleshoot my VNC server service on my Fedora core 4 installation

I ran through the walkthrough @ fedoranews.org and got it successfully running (sorry, can't post links yet :-(

However, the ONLY time I can VNC into it is when I am logged in as root... I can't VNC into it when I'm logged in as a regular user....

Any Ideas?

Thanks
James

Do you have the file "xstartup" in the /home/.vnc/ directory? Check for /root/.vnc/xstartup. You may need to copy the /root/.vnc/xstartup to your home directory.

I just found the files; I'll give it a whack.... :-)

xstartup is in both locations currently.....

Any other Ideas?

Below is what my xstartup file contains:

#!/bin/sh

# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
unset SESSION_MANAGER
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
twm &

Am I missing something?

Its working! :-) (Sort of)

Yaaaaay! :-) I figured it out; I never set a vncpasswd for the users that I set up in the VNCservers conig file

One other question: when I do successfully connect, the username box is greyed out and I can only enter a password...... any idea why that is?

Thanks guyz
