Question configuring routers in linux


how does one configure a cisco router the first time through a linux machine? iam referring to the initial setup what is done through the hyperterminal and console cable

I use a program called minicom.

usually, your serial port will be ttyS0, and make sure it is uncommented from /etc/serial.conf

Just out of curiousity, isn't hyperterminal a sort of front-end for telnet? Couldn't you simply telnet into the router?
