Configure My squid.conf so that i can use SSLport for POP, SMTP
Friends
upto now iam using my squid as a http proxy on port 80, i.e for only browsing the net.
Now i need to configure the squid to allow the SMTP, POP (ssl port 995,465). So how should i configure my squid.conf to allow the Thunderbird to use the ports 995,465 instead of proxy port 80.
So, that i can configure for the irc clients and peer to peer networks later also
any one please helpme out in configuring the squid proxy other than browsing such as irc client, thunderbird and etc.,
thanks in advance for the reply

Hello,
Squid is a HTTP/FTP proxy. POP and SMTP are not http protocol.
I imagine you want to set up a secure channel to send your POP and SMTP traffic through.
If you want to use a proxy to allow POP and SMTP through secure channels (so that the man in the middle cannot sniff your data), you'll need something like a SOCKS proxy and SSH Tunneling.
I've found this document that might be usefull:
SSH Tunneling and SOCKS
It might also be usefull to read this:
SOCKS
Kind regards,
Eric
