how do i change the name of my computer in a network?

Do you want to change the name of your computer
or give it an alias that is only seen on the network.


To set the hostname in RedHat,
you must edit the line HOSTNAME= in /etc/sysconfig/network

And if you insist on doing it the RedHat GUI way, you can fire up redhat-config-network, and configure the system's hostname under the DNS tab.
