Complex Server Architecture - Dian In Server for multiple Clients
Complex Server Architecture - Dian In Server for multiple Clients

Hello Everybody.

I am investigating about Dial In Servers.

I want to build a network, between many clients (POS,computers, etc.) and a Server (Linux Server computer), using only the phone line.

Clarifying, every client would use there phone line to connect to the server, but .... NOT USING THE INTERNET, just the phone line.

Its kind of the architecture used in the old days where we had to DIAL-UP to our ISP to get internet access.

I dont know the kind of hardware I need to build a server that can handle multiple clients that connect to it, using their phone lines.

Can anyone advice please?.

I have much knowledge on the topic of Dial-in servers. I assume that you are setting up a shop that has older POS terminals that only allow network traffic via a modem. Well, you actually need two servers. I just had a bunch of information, and removed it because I can make this a lot shorter. I'll make a Microsoft Visio graph of what you need, and a Word document of how to do all of this. If you email me (at, I'll send the graph and Word document to you sometime tomorrow. I have set this up before, and it's very easy (depending on how much knowledge of networks you have).

Thanks very much my friend.

And that's exactly what I was order to do.

There are a couple of shops, and they need to process transactions using old POS terminals like the one in this images:

the transactions are NOT visa, master or any other credit card, they are "home-made" transactions.

I will send you and email .

Thanks very much
