Completely clueness and wanting to get online

I'm running Debian 2.2. I want to set up the system to get TCP/IP settings from my DHCP router. I've found some text files that I guess I could edit that contain some settings, but that would only work if I had a static IP. Can I use DHCP with the standard installation? I don't have much of a way to get any new software yet, unless there's an easy way to read an HFS partition (I found software for that, so I guess there is no built-in way) or perhaps connect to a Mac OS X computer.

By the way, I installed some packages at system installation. I can't remember them exactly, but I'm pretty sure that IPv6 was one of them. I don't know if that's relevant.
