commit default gateway change

Hey all. Just wanted to say that this forum has been a godsend since I started on a second attempt at Linux. Here is my latest problem - its not a crisis but can turn into one if I ever need to reboot remotely.

I was having some serious network issues which were preventing my servers from "seeing" past the dmz. Before the fix when I ran a 'route' command I could see my default gateway. At that point we were trying a few different things, and one of them was to change the default gateway. Well after that didn't resolve the problem I restored the original gateway by issuing the command:

route add default gw 10.10.10.1

When I checked again, the default gateway was there. Well I rebooted the server and left work. Imagine my frustration when I got home I tried to connect but couldn't!!... I came in this morning, and checked route again and my default gateway was gone. I added it, and rebooted again ... *poof* ... gone again....

So the million dollar question is....How can I commit the default gateway permanently?

Thanks

oh by the way - I forgot to mention that in the /etc/sysconfig/network file the gateway is correctly listed as 10.10.10.1 so I'm not sure why the change I made isn't permanent.

Does anyone have any input on this? i've tried searching the forums but all i see is how to add the default using the route tool, and how to change it in the /etc/sysconfig/network file. I've checked the man on route but it doesn't say anything about a flag of some sort that would make it permanent.

The GATEWAY is correct in the network file and does not get reset at reboot. But after rebooting the default gateway is not listed in the routing table. There has to be some way to commit this change permanently or check something that might be preventing this setting from being retained? Is the routing table affected by any other file?

Thanks!

well just wanted to post the result. I ran netconfig and reentered all the information including the gateway and rebooted the server and the change was permanent.

What about your ifcfg file?

What does the output of these commands show:
grep "" /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth*
cat /etc/sysconfig/network
