comm card

I need to buy a new communications card/networking card.
are there any restrictions for Ubuntu to work on line? I comcast and netgear router, the pc is a Dell, 2000..

Are you talking about an ethernet card? Most any of the common ethernet cards will be recognized and used by any current linux distribution. The cards with Intel chipsets are pretty much guaranteed to work and are reasonably priced.
