Comcast Questions

OK I finally picked up the cable modem from comcast.

First of all they screwed me over when they did come with a NIC, or coax. So we payed anothger $60 for a two coaxs a splitter and a NIC.

So my questions were this:

Is the LNE100TX NIC from Linksys compatible with RedHat 7.0?
If kudzu does not autodetect the NIC how do I modprobe it?

Since they didn't give me a hostname or nameservers how does the DNSing work out? I read some other posts but still am not sure. What do I do to set it up?

They gave me a username/password but that is not required for service is it just email?

I think that is all.

Do I sound like a big linux newb or what

I can answer some of your questions. THe user name/pass is for e-mail only at least fo rme it is. If you have a windows system you can check that really easily to get the DNS servers, but if you are just trying to setup this computer for internet and no firewall/gateway then the dns stuff should be auto sent to yu when you get the IP address from the cable modem.
there is a file that stores the settings for your NIC once it is working. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
in there you can setup either dhcp auto asign from cable modem. as for the compatibility of the linsys card I would assume redhat will find it if it is a PCI card. I peronally use 3com isa cards and as long as you know the driver file all you have to do is:
insmod modulename <-- driver for NIC card.
