comcast issue

Hi!
I have a server running kubuntu with comcast. The problem is that the comcast modem every couple days 'freezes' and I have to restart it. I remember my friend had the same problem. Is there a way how to remotely reset the modem or can I just get any modem in store and replace it? Thanks

Well if it has locked up then obviously it probably won't respond to any remote requests to do anything. It is probably a hardware problem, is the modem particularly hot?

I would just look into getting another one from Comcast, personally.

You can take it back to the comcast store and swap it out if you are renting it from them, or you can just buy something like a Motorola SB5101 and take the old one back for credit. (make sure you get a returned equipment receipt and keep it safe)
When you get the new modem in place, either new or swap out, call 1800comcast option 2, option 2 and ask them to register your new modem for use.

Thanks! I already called comcast and they switched the modem, but the same thing keeps happening. I had the same problem with the modem in my old apartment, every couple days I had to restart it. I don't understand why 3 different modems from comcast all kept crashing.. So if I would go with http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Surfb.../dp/B000JV9LUK and everything should go smooth? Thanks
