college networking question


Hey i just wanted to ask how my colleges network runs
there are quite a few IT labs and you just use your login details to log in and access your data from anywhere in the college.

As far as i imagine we are something like connecting to a server or so..


could anyone expand ?

Well i want to know what kind of system are they using, or how can i have a similar system at home :]

a system to access a shared drive on a server? that's just a cifs / nfs server with an underpinning ldap / ad domain i expect. I think I must be missing something here...
