Client machine hardware and software detection using a program in red hat 9 network.

Hi
I am a student of BE computer .

Our college has a Redhat linux 9 network which includes a central server and nearly 100 diskless computers connected to it ie workstations.

i am tyring to develope a program that helps the network admin to monitor the hardware present with the client machine.

i am trying to develope a program that detects the hardware ie peripherals connected to the client machine and it sends a periodic report to the server which matches it with the data base stored and if miss match is found it sends a alert signal to the adminisrator.

so far i succeded in finding out the hardware such as processor, ram size, mouse, keyboard on the time of boot up.

but what i need is some means by which i can find the presence of the mouse or keyboard at the run time.

Welcome to LQ.

Try:
dmesg | grep input

You should be able to get most stuff from dmesg. Infact once check should be that the dmesg outputs at boot are roughly the same.
