Changing the socket descriptor - implications

What are the implications or changing the socket desriptor, say the host IP? This change would happen from the kernel.

Will the application pick up the change and continue it's communication?

Will the application crash?

Any event I can send the application to notify it of this change so it can adapt its behaviour?
