Unhappy Changing MAC address.

Hello there,
In the place where I stay, 6 people use internet at the same time. Sometimes, the guy who owns the internet connection blocks the MAC address of the people who doesn't use internet. Now lets assume the guy has blocked my MAC address. Now, if I change the MAC address of my wireless adapter (after it has been blocked), will I be able to access the internet?? Pls help me out with this issue friends... :-(
Regards,
Vignesh.

Yes, if you could change your MAC address then it would bypass any MAC address filtering (until the new MAC address is blocked). Not all network devices allow you to change their MAC address.

What kind of connection are you using? What networking hardware have you got (Router, own or provide). Do you have access to router config?

Kind regards,

Eric

Wink

It is not legal to change MAC address and U cannot ever change real MAC address.(it is stored in register of ethernet card)

The only thing which u are able is to fake the mac address..
this can be done for eg:--
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 01:02:03:04:05:06

look output of ifconfig and check which one u r using ...
try this...

hello friends,
First of all, thank you very much for the reply guys. :-) @EricTRA, I am using an ADSL connection. And we've got our own wireless router(D-link). They guy who owns the internet connection, has the password. He doesn't want to share the password to access the router gateway. Everyone has WPA key so that they can use the internet. So if that guy (who owns the internet connection) blocks my MAC address, I can fake the MAC address and start using internet again? Wat if I use wired connection? Can he still block my MAC address? Once again, thank u very much for the reply guys..
Regards,
Vignesh.

If "the guy who owns the internet connection blocks the MAC address" of your MAC then he probably doesn't want you to use his connection. You should respect his choice, as he owns, and presumably pays for, this connection.

We are not here to help you crack your neighbour's security.

You should speak to him, rather than ask us to help you circumvent his security. Perhaps he will allow you access if you agree to share the cost, if his ISP allows this.

Generally, if "the guy who owns the internet connection" is "blocking" your MAC address, changing your MAC will not grant you access.

So, speak to him, or pay for your own connection.

Did you read the LQ rules before you posted your question?
