Question Change file owner in W2K on a RH8 server

I have a RH8 server running samba and have winbind set up and all works ok.
My question is, from a 2000 client i've mapped to a share of which ive got write access to and i'm on the admin users list in Samba for this share. However I cannot (from 2000) change any permissions to the file like I would be able to if it was on a standard NT share. I just keep getting an error which says 'unable to save permissions changes on ....' 'access denied'.

So in summary i created the file on a linux share from my w2000pc, I am the file owner and i have full access to it in the linux environment but i cannot manipulate the files permissions from the w2000 environment. What am I missing ???

Did not work!

The solution below did not work for me. I could not repeat the fix. Anyone else have a solution?

Hello, this might help; I hope.

I had the same issue. Not sure as to all the in and outs for why but this worked.

In the nsswitch.conf file for the lines:

passwd: files nisplus
shadow: files nisplus
group: files nisplus

I removed nisplus and used winbind:

passwd: files winbind
shadow: files nisplus
group: files winbind

I originally had all three 'files nisplus winbind'.

That solved my issue, with using XP to change file permissions on a RH9 samba share.
