cbq shaper configuration question

Hi all,

I would like to ask you all for help with this configuration.
I have already setup cbq to shape some clients who broke some of the ToS, but I need a different things now. I have reduced bandwidth for time being because of reconstruction and need to prioritize traffic to certain hosts such as servers and network administrator computers. I tried with following:

Code:
DEVICE=eth0,100Mbit,10Mbit
RATE=100Mbit
WEIGHT=10Mbit
PRIO=1
LEAF=sfq
PERTURB=10
RULE=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,
RULE=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,
(eth0 is outside interface of routing gateway)

I imagined that while setting these specific IPs to priority 1 they will have privileged bandwidth so they can maintain network efficiently.

There are two possibilities: either it can't be accomplished this way or i am doing something wrong.

P.S. I have second config similar to this with commas at start and another interface name. When restarting i got this output:

Code:
Stopping CBQ traffic shaping: shaper.
Starting CBQ traffic shaping: find: warning: you have specified the -maxdepth option after a non-option argument (, but options are not positional (-maxdepth affects tests specified before it as well as those specified after it). Please specify options before other arguments.

hi,

i'm not sure which should that be. It's working the other way, I can succesfully shape ip's speed down to the required limit.

Hi,

no it's debian host. But I've already figured this one out. It doesn't implicitly process other traffic until defined so. What I did was add whole network range to cbq file with low priority and in another file list those special hosts with higher priority. And it works, I just don't know in what way it parses the conf. files because I have like 8 of them. It looks like it goes from network ranges to single ip addresses.

Regards,

Marek

Re: CBQ Shaperd

Thanks Marek. I'll also try that one out. Anyway, we are using Shorewall as our firewall gateway and i'm considering its tc built-in support to shape our network traffic. Thanks again for the reply.
