Cant share files in SAMBA | VirtualBox

I was setting up a SAMBA server. So I am using virtualbox to do this. For Linux part I am using CentOS6.4 and windows part I am using Windows8. I can ping both of them from each other.

Once I have setup SAMBA I setup the firewall to allow SAMBA and SAMBA Client, but when I go to Windows and try to find share pc in Netwrok section couldnt find my SAMBA Server.

and one quick question, what is the difference between samba and samba4? I was planning to install one rpm called swat but it comes with only samba4, but I have installed samba. Now if I want to install swat do i need to install all samba4 packages and remove samba packs?

Thanks,.

samba share need to be set allow by SElinux. So make sure your SElinux is disabled/Permissive.
If you want your SElinux on then run chcon -Rt samba_share_t /path_to_the_Folder

There is quite diffrence between samba & samba4( It comes with more features AD, DNS ,Xattr), But Samba4 is not fully available till now on RHEL7. You have to manually compile it.

You didn't mention it, but you may want to check that your virtualbox machine and your host machine are on the same subnet. This is not the case by default.

Hey I have seen those but they are in the same subnet. still doesnt show anything on the network. ok I have an additional query, on my virtual box machine when I use fake ip for DNS Win8.1 I couldnt ping my Centos but when I removed that I can. Now that option left blank but It requires an IP. so could this play a role into this.

Thanks for helping me.
