cant see windows shares in konqueror
hello,
i have windows xp sharing w/mandrake 9.1 ok. the only problem is i cant see windows files in konqueror. i can see them ok when i use the smbclient. i'm a little stumped because i thought the smb ioslave in konqueror was just a frontend for smbclient. any suggestions welcome.. thanx alan |
Type in the adressbar:
smb://user@machine/folder This is the syntax. |
is the windows and mandy in same system? if so u need to mount it first
|
no i tried youre suggestions but still dont see any files. its weird cause i do get a list of shared folders when i issue command smb:/windows_workgroup/computername. but when i click on any directory i get a blank window pane that says 0 files 0 directories in status bar. the setup is i'm using windows xp on desktop, mdk 9.1 w/kde 3.1 on a laptop. smbclient /computer_name/directory @ prompt gets me in no problem and i can list any directory...

You probably omitted the "browseable" option.
|
could u be more specific. what is the "broseable" opttion?
alan |
This is an option in the shares defined in /etc/samba/smb.conf which make folder browseables, i.e. you can look inside.
|
yeah my smb.conf file is very basic. do u know what is the exact syntax to add this to the file?
alan |
browseable = No
take also a look at man smb.conf |
i was just curious. its the windows shares on the windows computer i cant see so why would editing the smb.conf file help me? the linux shares i see fine from the xp computer

Ah. Sorry i didn't understand...
|
first enable rlan option in the kde control centre
Code:
kde controle center rlan:/[System Name to access] in konqueror |
i'm sorry i dont see option you are referring to. all i have on that page is a tab for windows shares w/username,password,computer name & a drop down list for windows encoding which i have no idea what it is for. it is set for iso-8859-1.
alan |
have you tried in "Local Network Browsing" and then clicked on "lan:/ & rlan:/" tab at top?
|
all i have on top tab is "windows Shares". i'm running kde 3.1 is this "/rlan" tab new? or is there a package i dont have installed?
