Hi,
are you sure these services are up ?

Did you activate the special security package ?
My impression is that this fakes nmap !!

First check whether is service is running .

use can use the command netstat -an

and also use telnet 127.0.0.1 80 to check whether port 80 is

running or not

Thanks & Regards

Check the individual services' .conf files to see to which interfaces they bind.

nmap localhost

will not neccessarily show the same as

nmap [ip address of ppp0]

or

nmap [ip address of eth0]

Thanks you all,

the nmap localhost shows port 22, 25, 110, 111, 631, 783, 6000 but when I nmap the ip address it shows only port 22, 110, 111 and 6000.

Port 80 = Your webserver.

Run httpd or /etc/rc.d/init.d/apache or /etc/rc.d/init.d/apache2 (or browse the /etc/rc.d/ tree or check your services/runlevel program from the GUI)

Port 25 is your smtp server. This would be postfix or procmail or qmail or smtpd... could even be in xinetd.conf...

Anwyays, when you find the relevant config files, check for lines containing "bind" or "listen". "All" or it's equivalent should do nicely.

I can telnet localhost port 25 but not with the ip address. However when I type /etc/rc.d/init.d/postfix status , I got this message "master is stopped". Do you know how I can be able to start master?

Thank you all. I had to install an new postfix version and to uninstall sendmail. Now postifx is working fine. I can ping both 25 and 110. I am still struggling with httpd port 80 and ftp.
Insenga.
