I know you've reformatted but it would have been nice to know what 'ifconfig' showed, and any output from 'traceroute' to see where you're packets were going. Also maybe the output from ethereal while you were trying to resolve a host name. If you couldn't ping any host (on your LAN and the net) then you obivously wouldn't have had your DNS setting configured correctly, or your router wasn't configured to act as a DNS server. Chances are though your problem was that you didn't have your router's IP address set as the default gateway. - Just my two cents.
well from what I remember, ifconfig showed the correct address and no dropped packets. Traceroute worked fine so long as used the destinations IP ( I was able to ping anything int./ext. by IP only ). I confirmed the default gateway with route. The only thing that didn't work was name resolution. As for Ethereal, honestly I didn't even think of that.
now that I'm reminising about the whole ordeal, the one thing I remember that struck me as wierd was that the Loopback adapter had no routeing entries. ( oh well, too late now )
Thanks for the two cents, they are always beter than none.
