Good one Andrew. (It's been a while since I've had to mess with my samba config. God I love Linux!)

I still can't join my domain.
I don't know what to do...

I have tried uninstalling the SecuRemte (VPN software), but I keep getting the same error message...

Damian-MLA.com 09-14-2004 11:22 AM

I have also deleted the line for the machine account in the /etc/samba/smbpasswd...
but I still can't...

should I add the root acount in somewhere else? I have added in smbpasswd also, is that correct?

tbeehler 09-14-2004 11:30 AM

Well that all sounds correct. I am wondering about the username not found. How odd. There's a registry hack that some people need to do on XP clients. I dont' know if that applies to you, but do a search on here for "xp registry samba" and there'll be a few places you can look for that hack. I don't have it off the top of my head, but I'll look for it here when I get a free moment.

I have just joined mi samba domain.

It seems that the add machine script was giving me problems...

thank you. (to all of you)

Ahh I see. Well glad you got it up and running. A lot of times, it's one or two minor things that are keeping you from achieving your goal. Well, if you have any further problems, feel free to come on back and we'll hook you right up!

What was it?

I am glad you got it going, that's great, but now I am having exactly the same problem and you didn't tell us what was wrong with your "add user script". So guess what I can't check mine against yours to see if they are any different. Mine looks like all the others I have seen in this thread and others.

Please post what the exact problem was, it's much better to post:

"The problem was that the ........ and to fix it you....."

Instead of:

"I fixed it thanks" this implies that anyone else with the same problem now has to re-invent the wheel and work out where we are going wrong.

hazza96 09-29-2004 08:42 PM

This is what I found

Ok for anyone else having the same problem I found what the problem was. I am running Samba 3.0.6 and I don't know if this works for earlier versions of samba but the line I need was:

Code:

add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -g machines -c Machine -d /dev/null -s /bin/false %u
Make sure you have a unix group called 'machines' as well.

Great! Yeah you'll find a bunch of little things can hold up the whole operation. :) Once I fixed my issues, it's been running like a dream. I HIGHLY recommend that you pick up the official Samba book at amazon.com or where ever. It's helped me tremendously when it comes to little things that I wanted for my users. Such as why when they save word/excel documents to the shared folder, it sets permissions funny (and gives you the solution) Anyways, glad to see you're up and running!
