cant get second ethernet nic to work
I have a server running with redhat 7.1 (out of the box, no updates) which works fine.
I need to add a second nic to the box. I have tried two different gigabit ethernet cards (SMC, D-Link) and both do not work. I have installed each using the vendor's lunix drivers and followed thier installation instructions.
Both behave in a similar way:
1) they both link to an gigabit nic in a windows box.
2) they both seam to install during boot-up but say "delayed".
3) they both shutdown properly.
4) there has always been a Intel 100baseT nic in the server that works properly.
I do not know where to look next.
Please help

if you could explain why this is a "no go" i would greatly appreciate it. i have spent the last 2 weeks trying to configure a 2nd gigabit card knowing that the onboard card works.

cripes, please NEVER reply to a post this old. but basically if you are putting them on the same subnet on the same machine it doesn't make logical sense, even if windows says it's ok. it contradicts ethernet principles, and as such is automatically disabled, as the bus becomes corrupted if it is a true ethernet backbone you are using.
