Cant get internet of shared XP connection...
This is my first go at Linux, and so far everything has been good... BUT
I'm running an ISDN connection off an XP machine, which is connected via wireless to a wireless router, which connects via CAT5 to the Linux machine (RedHat 8). I can ping the XP machine, I can ping the router, but after entering the correct settings for the network (ip, gateway, netmask) it wont let me access the internet. I've also tried running it via DHCP off the DHCP on the router with no sucess. Anyone got any ideas?? |

Sorry, can not even ping outside the lan.
Also the two other XP machines on the network are running TCP/IP & NetBEUI protocols. |
Have u tried enabling internet connection sharing (ics) on your xp machine that is to act as ur server and then using the address that it assigns itself and also running the ics floppy (that u will have to make, in the other xp machine. Or are u using ur own network addresses that u have assigned ureself? My first suggestion would be the easiest route to follow.... see how that goes and then if u r still having probs we can take it from there :-)

Did you enter a DNS server? (Use your router's IP for that.)

Got it all going, after restarting the network service a couple of times it started working.
Thanks everyone for your help! |
