Exclamation Cant get any Netgear FA311 drivers to work!

I just installed mandrake 7.1 and I can't get the drivers for my netgear NIC from Netgear or scyld.com to work. I can compile the drivers from netgear, when i put fa311.o in the net directory in modules, it says: Unresolved symbols When I go to compile natsemi.c (or pci scan) I get LOTS of error messages and it doesn’t compile. Can anyone help me out?

Question

I have the same problem. Will using a RedHat driver on Mandrake solve it?

My understanding is that the driver is compiled for the kernel, not distro, so should be OK. Besides, Mandrake evolved from RedHat (as I recall), and uses same RPM format etc, so should work fine.

Question

I've installed the driver as per instructions in http://www.sonnik.com/fa311/. I still have a problem.

I'm using a graphical config application on mandrake called netconf (perhaps I shouldn't be using this). Anyway, there's a dialog that asks for the kernel module and gives you a list of the available drivers and fa311 was still not in the list.

The on-line help says it needs to be selected using "make menuconfig". Nothing if not brave I suss out that I need to cd to /usr/src/linux and do the make. This is where it gets confusing.

All I did in here was (I think) select the Network Device Support option and exited (saving the new config). It did a lot of making (without errors) but when I retried the netconf utility the fa311 drive was still not in the magic list.

Any ideas?

On RedHat 7 with 2.2.16, I copied the file into etc/modules/2.2.16/net (I think that's the location anyway). I then used linuxconf to set up eth0. I was shocked not to see fa311 in the drop down menu (windows habit).
Eventually I typed it into the relevant place, clicked activate changes and there was my fully functional NIC.
Try the keyboard guys.

When some of you say that you're getting tons of errors, please be more specific. Posting the exact errors and when they occur will make it much easier for someone to help figure out what's going wrong.

In linuxconf where the drop-down menu appears for the module. Don't select one, just click in the box and type fa311.
