Cant Connect to network via/user name and password

Im running Suse 10.0 RC1 on my Dell Latitude D800 and Im having trouble connecting to my network.

It is a college network and how you connect via windows or mac you use your computer account (EX: abc12)and password. I have been trying to figure out how to authencate, but when I try using YAST, nothing seems to help and I have no idea what commands to use. any help would be greatly appreciated.

~Peace everyone~

connect to network via username/password

Hello,

What are you trying to do ?
- Access a network proxy to surf ?
Check if you have a IP
- Mount a network share ?
You have to know the server and share names.

A username and password is usefull only if you use the good software/command to access the ressource you need.
Maybe you can try to find a "browse network" or "network" icon on you desktop.

Thanks for replying ouyo,

What the network is basically the ISP for the college. So all im trying to do is connect to the internet via my network card. Im sucessfully connected to the internet via the windows side of my laptop since thats easy to setup.

The school website doesnt have any information on authencating through linux, yet there is a unix timeshare and linux workstations available.

Cant Connect to network via/user name and password

what have you configured in the windows side - what's the software used to surf ?
when are you asked a username/password ?

do you get a IP with linux ?
what's the soft you use with linux to surf ?
maybe you have to specify a proxy to surf ...

On the windows side, the school makes us use a program called AEGIS to have us connect to the network. There is a profile that we create the program uses to connect to the network.

Basically what happens is when i login to windows, it loads the client and connects to the network with my user name/password combination i specified when i setup the connection profile. AEGIS says i have a leased IP address so if I connect through my room, it is always the same so I can use that as my IP in linux.

In linux, my IP should be the same as windows, but I dont know how to setup the connection at all. Suse detects my card and i tried configuring it, but from YAST there isnt any options to specify how to authencate. I can setu routing tables and things like that, but I dont need any special addresses or anything of the sort. Just how to tell Suse that i want to link my username/password to the connection so it will connect to the network.

Thanks

PS:under AEGIS it says the authencation type is PEAP, which i dont know what that means.
