cant connect to fedora

Hi,

I'm at my wits end.
I've installed fedora core 3 and tried to configure samba to no luck (win XP clients couldn't connect as a PDC)

I'm trying to at least configure a ftp server or something. I cant remotely access the server.

I can ping the server from my winXP machine and see it in Network Places, but cannot connect to it. I tried installing webmin, but I get nothing when I browse to 192.168.1.100:10000 from my browser.

What have I done wrong? Where should I be looking, this is driving me insane.

I've removed the firewall and disabled SELinux, still no joy.

is it anything to do with my TCP/IP settings on each machine??

I have static IP for the server. 192.168.1.100 and static IP for the XP 192.168.1.20

woohoo I have an ftp server working, but now i get "permission denied" when I try to upload something.

THis is going to be on a local lan, so I don't need security (famous last words)

What should I have in the config file to allow anyone access??

using proftpd.

Kudos to http://linux.cudeso.be/linuxdoc/proftp.php

FOLLOWUP::

Just changed permissions on the ftp folder to 777 and no problems now!!

still can't get webmin or samba working though!
