sounds like your dialup provider isnt giving you any dns.

You could use the cd's and install bind/named

and set your dialup connection to use the local machine as a dns server.

just install named and start the service
service start named

use setup to set named to startup on boot.

any suggestion to give reinstall ppp
then i can recover my problem

jaem 07-08-2003 01:07 PM

btw i can use the dns my isp gave me with my winxp. thats what im using now.

and i tried two different ISP's already.. :(

hakcenter 07-08-2003 01:08 PM

i would seriously give a local dns install a definate try. Especially on a dial-up :D

jaem 07-08-2003 01:13 PM

hmm. i will try it. thanks for the advice. btw i installed all the packages, so that means i already installed it right??

hakcenter 07-08-2003 01:15 PM

possibly, try activating it
service named start

jaem 07-08-2003 02:13 PM

tried it and i still cant browse...

hakcenter 07-08-2003 02:15 PM

your dial-up set to use your local dns?

dns server = 127.0.0.1 ?

can you ping yahoo.com ?

jaem 07-08-2003 02:38 PM

hmm.. yes i can acces yahoo through its IP add. but when i click on anything on it, it goes to the resolving host... again..

hmm how do i know that i set my dial up to use local dns?
