cannot use internet on linux in my school network

i have linux mandrake 9.1 on my computer
its a beutifull os but i am unable to use the internet on it
the internet connection i use is from my school network
i have a sis 900 lan card.the school network uses proxy settings
i know all the required parameters and all but still am not able to use the internet.
i think it may be because a popup login screen
doesnt pop up in any other browser other than internet explorer.
I can give the details for proxy etc if it will make it easy for anyone to help me.

You might want to ask that question in the mandrake group, but you might need proxy packages, most likely they were installed if you were using mandrake.
