Cannot print to Startech PM1115U print server

Hi,

I have a Brother HL-5040 laser printer connected to a PM1115U print server. I was able to print to it just fine for quite a while, when running Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10. Then one day it just stopped working. When I try to print a test page, it just hangs in the queue and I end up having to power cycle the print server to unjam things. Sometimes I will eventually get part of a page. Recently, one of my disks started to fail, so I rebuilt the system from scratch using 14.04 - same problem.

I've tried setting it up using a number of different protocols and drivers, but none of them work correctly. Windows 7 systems that are on the network are able to print to it just fine. Basically, I've run out of ideas on how to debug this. Any thoughts?

Also, I just found out that all you have to do with the current setup is wait a couple of hours and the test page gets printed? As recommended, it is currently using the hl1250 driver. The device URI that I am using is socket://192.168.1.170. Although the page has printed, 'lpstat -t' still says that it is waiting for the printer to finish.

I can't imagine why the delay with the print job, but the CUPS error and page log should help determine the nature of the problem.

Remove all stale jobs with
Code:
cancel -a
and try checking the printer status again. Perhaps it might also be useful to use wireshark to check the network activity while sending a print job.
