Each has it's own name, and DHCP is handling IP. Later I will be on the server trying some more things. I will post my smb.conf then.

I am gonna play with my firewall and make sure that isn't it this evening. One would think if I can ping the server, I should be able to ping the client. If I ping the client IP it goes through but by name it doesn't.
I am not winning the master election according to my XP logs.
I am using netstat, nbtstat, and net commands, any others in windoze I need to know?

Same thing here Dogface on almost the same setup. I can see samba shares and ping the linux box from an xp box and I can see netbios shares on the xp box from the linux box and can ping the xp box's IP but not its name (xp box is using DHCP from our router). I'd love to hear your solution if you find it and I'll keep banging away at it on my end (got a web site on the xp box so entering its ip is becoming a pain especially when it gets a new ip from the DHCP server).
