I'm not quite sure I understand your problem ...
Code:
mingdao@silas:~$ host www.saroj.com
www.saroj.com has address 66.36.247.86

I also have a problem related with the dns resolve
My customer has a domain but it is not registered. I access it by adding the hostname in the /etc/hosts and working on it. I can access the domain by direct internet connection but through proxy it is not accessible. If any provision for adding the hostname n the squid. If anyone knows the problem please help me ??

Thanks
In Advance

kssuhesh,
Isn't this a separate problem that should be in a separate thread?

Reported.

These seem to be possibly-related issues with DNS. I'm going to move the whole thread to Networking where it will be more appropriate and get the exposure it deserves.

Do you have your DNS server/s listed in /etc/resolv.conf? Also, what is listed for hosts in /etc/nsswitch.conf? Is it something like this?
Code:
hosts: files dns
