cannot even ping

I set up a RedHat system and the ifconfig says it is up and broadcasting and I can ping myself but that is about all I can do.

When I try to ping any other machine it says that the host is unreachable or something like that.

If someone could just point me in the right direction of what I can do or where I can find reading material that would be great

You've edited your /etc/hosts and added the names and IP's of the other boxes?

Yea I tried doing that.

But maybe I did something wrong?

What are the possible reasons that it would not work other than hardware? Maybe if someone can point me to a place where I could find reasons for it not working then I might see what I am doing wrong.

I'll post the ifconfig and route info as soon as I can.
Right now I am on vacation for about two weeks so if this is still around by then I'll get back to it.
