cannot email external domains

hi,

I have setup sendmail on my server and when I try to send an email to any external domain it gives an error no route to host.

It can send emails to the local domain though without any problems.

I have checked the resolv.conf file and all seems to be fine there and when i say dig for example dig yahoo.com I am getting a positive response.

The gateway is also set correctly.

Is there anything that could be wrong in the config files like sendmail.mc ? Or can we assume that all's fine with it since local emails are being sent ?

Any suggestions is appreciated.

This is RHEl 4

Have you seen if you are on a black list? If it's true, your mails are going to Spam folders or directly not accepted on servers.

If this isn't true, you can post some logs, like /var/log/mail.*

Thanks for the reply Emi

I checked the maillog and the error is :

(Deferred: mail1.xxxxx.com.: No route to host)

The issue was resolved after we added a default gateway.

thanks again Emi.
