cannot connect to windows xp

Hi all,

Please help!!

I just installed Mandrake Linux version 10 on one of my computers at home. I am now trying to conncect to my Windows XP controlled PC but with no sucess. I keep getting a timeout error when I try to mount using samba. I am able to ping the windows pc.

Thanks for any help u might be able to provide

My guess is XP is looking for the password to be encrypted. There was a registry hack to disable secure communication a long time ago. Samba should now have the ability to use secure communication but this is only a guess. I'm not much of a samba user anymore.

what do you use?

What do you use for file and print sharing?

I use NFS for file serving. I don't have a centralized print server. I only print from my main desktop

I think you might be right about it being an authentication issue, but how do I correct it. I can connect fine from Windows XP to Linux but not the other way around....

Help please!!
