Cannot connect to TightVNC Server
Hello
I am trying to connect to my Linux Box from my XP Box using TightVNC. Both machines are on the same subnet.
Everything compiled fine, vncserver is also running fine, i use nmap to check the ports are also open. But when i try connecting from the client, it says failed to connect to Server. What am i missing?
Thank you
V

Are both of them Linux or are you doing a win32/linux (or vice versa) connection?

O...forgot to suggest that you check your firewall settings on the Linux machine.

Your firewall settings on the XP box should be opened as well. If you are using the firewall, open up a 'zone' on your class C network (192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255) or whatever zone your router is using. Symantec and zonealarm also work the same way.

Did you ever get your TightVNC connectivity problem between XP and Linux solved? I'm having the same failure with W2K and SuSE sles-9.

Interestingly enough, post replying to this, i ran into a similar problem.
I had trouble connecting to ports like 5901 from XP with tightVNC...i tried downloading the RealVNC client... It worked.
After that, i set the vnc server to run directly on 5900 and the tightVNC client worked just fine.

Had the same problem. I just had to manually type the :5901 for the port after the IP and it connected with TightVNC. Maybe you've done that already, but it wasn't obvious to me.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the :5901 port parameter. It fixed things for me.
