Cannot connect to game server

Setup:

Router/Gateway: ClearOS 6.3
Debian host, where OpenVZ has been installed.

VPS: Ubuntu 12.04 as game server, with Wine (no native linux server part for the game in question)

My problem is:

I simply cannot connect to my game server through my internal IP, nor can my friends connect through my external IP.

The server itself shows up in the game's server browser. But when people click "connect" they just get stuck at loading.

The game in question would be Chivalry Medieval Warfare, and I've followed this guide to get the server up and running.

Port forwarding has been done for port 7777, 7778 and 27015.
I don't believe that is the issue, since external connections with SSH and also HTTP work just fine.

I've looked in syslog, and messages, but none of these give me a hint of what might be wrong.

I've disabled the firewall on my Ubuntu (I think):

Code:
sudo iptables -L -n

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
When I try to connect with my VPS' local IP, nothing happens.
When I deliberately try to connect with an IP that does not exist I immediately get "lost connection" - so obviously something is happening...

I am not very good with linux, I simply do not know how to do a proper error search. Can someone please help me? I have been struggling with this for several weeks now - hitting up google. But since I don't know what is wrong, I come up empty.

Can you try a tcptraceroute to the IP and port? That will tell you exactly where the connection is going and where its getting stuck. Once you have that you can see if it is the router thats hanging it up or what the bottleneck is.
