Cannot check mail on my server from the outside.

I have a sendmail mail server configured, and locally, all is well. I can send and receive to an email address that I have set up. I have created a couple of test accounts, and cannot check these from the outside (using a MUA such as Outlook). With the test option in Outlook, it can send a message to my server no problem but cannot check for mail using pop3. Pop3 is set up and working correctly, as I can telnet to it locally and check my mail. Is there some setting, that is restricting access from users trying to use my pop3?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Albert Norman

This may sound a bit stupid, but... Have you checked your firewall rules ?
run: "iptables -L" and check if your blocking inbound connections from outside to POP3.
