I was following some instructions from a wiki about inspecting a local area network. I haven't solved my problem yet. Here is some more to ponder.
I ran
Code:
nmap -sT 192.168.0.*
and this found all workstations on the lan. I am interested in one, in particular for example. It showed this output:
Quote:
Interesting ports on 192.168.0.3:
(The 1660 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: closed)
PORT STATE SERVICE
139/tcp open netbios-ssn
445/tcp open microsoft-ds
631/tcp open ipp
MAC Address: 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (Netgear)
|
I further executed
Code:
nmblookup -A 192.168.0.3
and it returned
Quote:
Looking up status of 192.168.0.3
yadayada <00> - B <ACTIVE>
yadayada <03> - B <ACTIVE>
yadayada <20> - B <ACTIVE>
..__MSBROWSE__. <01> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE>
yadagroup <00> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE>
yadagroup <1d> - B <ACTIVE>
yadagroup <1e> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE>
MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00

I assume this is all good. The yadayada workstation name is correct, as is the yadagroup.
Executing any of the following (all seemed to work at one point)
Code:
smbclient -L \\yadayada
smbclient -L yadayada
it returns a failure, connection to yadayada failed.
Does this give anyone else an idea?
