Unhappy Cannot activate network device...

Dear All:

Please HELP!!!

I use the onboard LAN with , but it cannot be activated and showed the ff. error message:

Determining IP information for eth0: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address failed.

Check with the "ifconfig", which showed:

eth0:
......
HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00
......

Does the MAC Address (HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00) cause my network cannot be activated?

Please HELP!!! Thank you very much!!!

I know the answer is "Yes", but is the card activated in your BIOS?

Thank you very much for your answer.

I have enabled the onboard MAC supported in BIOS Setup.

But it's really strange, the network is working properly in Windows OS; although the MAC Address is blank. (I could not understand this...>_<)

PS. This's onboard LAN of SIS900. (M/B: SiS 661FX+963)

Geesh, that's what I use and I have *never* seen this. Sorry, but I am stumped. This would appear to be a driver problem, so have you googled for this issue? Surely you are not the first.

Just on a hunch, can you post the output from

#lspci

and

#lsdev

Cheers--
Charles
