Can someone point me to a COMPLETE yet BASIC howto for samba?

What I mean by this is one that doesn't treat you like a newbie at one point (which it should) and like an expert another. Every one I've found makes ridiculous assumptions about my knowledge or about the current configuration.

Many of these gleefully suggest that I type smbmount yada yada. Well despite the fact that I've install samba, I haven't a clue where the files are, and smbclient, smbmount, etc. all give command not found errors.

This one is debian based. Should work with Debian derived distros also.

Well...if you're using Fedora core and Gnome...I can create one for you

1. Go to System->Administration->Security Level and Firewall
2. Make sure Samba is checked in Trusted Services
3. If you want to share a directory in /home, go to SELinux
3a. Click Modify SELinux Policy->Samba
3b. Make sure "Allow Samba to share users home directories" is checked
3c. Click OK
4. Go to System->Administration->Server Settings->Samba
5. Go to Preferences->Server Settings
6. Type the name of your workgroup in Workgroup
7. Type a description of your Samba server in Description
8. Click Security
9. Make sure Authentication Mode is User
10. Make sure Encrypt Passwords is Yes
11. Make sure Guest Account is No guest account
12. Click OK
13. Go to Preferences->Samba Users
14. Add a user...
15. Click Add Share
16. Fill in Directory, Share Name and Description
17. If you want it to be read-only check Visible ONLY, otherwise check Visible and Writable
18. Click Access
19. Figure that out...
20. Click OK
21. Quit
22. Go to System->Administration->Server Settings->Services
23. If you want Samba to start by itself, check smb and click save
24. Restart smb
25. Done! *phew*! I hoped that helped...and if you're not using Fedora Core and Gnome,...MY FINGERS!!
