Can someone confirm this network setup for me?

I looked at this thread
http://askubuntu.com/questions/24889...ection-sharing

I was wondering if this is all I need to do the following?

I have a computer with 2 network cards. 1 is connected to a router which is connected to the internet.

I have a laptop I want to connect to the second network card. If I follow the above thread? will I have internet on both computers. Both will be ubuntu 12.04.

Bonus question -> If one of the computers is Ubuntu Server, can I still do this and serve resources to the laptop?

Networking is just addresses and routes. With some filtering and stuff. There's various ways to set that up, some easier than others.

The link only shows one side of the setup. And makes several assumptions which may not ring true. You'll have to setup some form of bridging on the machine with 2 nics. And the connect automatically box assumes that there's a DHCP server setup and running on the network.

I see you have a similar topic in the Linux - Newbie forum ... How can I setup a simple linux network of 2 computers with ethernet? .

Your questions are slightly different, but near enough in effect that it is essentially duplicate. You should not ask the same question in more than one forum. Perhaps a mod will combine them.
