Can ping, but no telnet or ftp
I set up a RedHat 7.1 machine as a PPP server and I can connect another RedHat 7.1 machine as the client using PPP. (This took some doing until I found out I needed to put "noauth" in my options file).
But anyway, I am able to see the pp0 interface with ifconfig and I can ping the PPP server, but I can't telnet, ftp, or ssh into it.
What am I missing?

You have to enable them via either /etc/xinet.conf or somewhere in /etc/xinetd.d/ I haven't played around with it too much, so the only thing I can do is point you in the right direction.

Sounds right. You will have to make sure that the appropriate servers are running before they will accept connections - check under
#ps -aux |more
to verify if they are running. I have seen telnet and ssh run under their own daemon generally, and ftp as a process through inetd or xinetd.. if not going, start the daemons and set configurations for them.
